World Hijab Day

Nazma Khan, who immigrated to the United States from Bangladesh at age 11, faced years of shaming over wearing a headscarf in New York.

So, in 2013, she started World Hijab Day - a day for both Muslim and non-Muslim women to experience wearing a headscarf.

Celebrated on Feb. 1, WHD is an expression of solidarity and support for religious freedom.

WHAT IS '"HIJAB"?

• Barrier hijab is an arabic word that translates' cover". it is used to describe a headscarf that
• Muslim women wear it to cover their hair. Hijab means to hide from view, conceal, or cover something. Hijab is the modest covering of the woman and includes the complete dress.

WHEN DO YOU START WEARING IT?

• After hitting the age of puberty

IS THE HIJAB REQUIRED?

• Yes, in the quran, god commands muslimwomen to draw a veil to cover themselves. although it is required, it is unlawful for a man to force it upon a woman.

WHO CAN SEE YOUR HAIR?

• All females, any direct male family member (brother, father, husband,son, uncle, grandfather, etc)
